Cello - Itinerant Lessons

Tuesdays in Jubilee Green Room

The student needs to be well co-ordinated and have a good ear for pitch to progress in lessons on a stringed instrument. Home support is required as the student MUST practise at least five times per week: 20 minutes for a beginner, more as the student progresses. Students must own/hire a Cello (¾ or full-sized to suit student’s height). The Stringed Instrument Company and KBB have well-run hire schemes. The student will need to replace strings if they break – not a common occurrence if the instrument is correctly cared for. Students are expected to join a school orchestra or ensemble as soon as they are able. A beginner will require a tutor book ($20 - $25). If the student is already accomplished on Cello or another instrument, another study book may be more suitable (approximately $35), and a repertoire book of a similar cost will be needed. Teacher provided copies of pieces or exercises may also be used.
